2023 Coltons Cab, Lucky 8 Vineyard

Available:  In Stock $49.00

Vintage Notes: In Livermore Valley, the 2023 vintage was a story of patience rewarded. An unusually wet winter followed by a cool, fog-kissed spring delayed the seasons start by nearly two weeks, providing abundant soil moisture and lush canopy growth. A mild summer with steady temperatures and minimal heat spikes encouraged slow ripening and the development of deep color, polished tannins, and bright acidity. A brief Labor Day heat spike nudged the fruit toward ideal ripeness, followed by light, inconsequential rain. Harvest stretched into October, yielding Cabernet clusters with varietal purity, balance, and expressive fruithallmarks of one of Livermores most elegant vintages in recent memory.

The Wine: Our 2023 Coltons Cabernet is a captivating expression of Cabernet Sauvignonbold yet refined. In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet hue that hints at richness. The nose opens with layers of black cherries, blackberries, and currants, accented by violets, sweet jasmine, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Subtle notes of thyme, oregano, chocolate mint, and sandalwood add complexity.  On the palate, this vintage showcases a core of ripe dark fruitblack cherry, blackberry, and currantlifted by bright acidity and velvety tannins. Notes of milk chocolate, white pepper, and cigar box offer savory depth. The finish is long, expressive, and fruit-driven, carrying richness through to the final sip.  Pair with braised short rib and wild mushrooms, or try it with a grilled lamb burger topped with herbed goat cheese.
