Vineyard Notes: The 2019 growing season was another exceptional vintage in our Lucky 8 Vineyard. The vineyard itself is located on the north side of Tesla Road, just south of the Sandia hills. It slopes from north to south and offers a nice southern exposure. The vine rows are planted in a north-south orientation to maximize sunlight in the canopy. We brought in 5 tons from the six rows we meticulously farmed for this wonderful red wine.
Winemaking Style: We hand-harvested our Malbec at night to receive the fruit while it was cool. This helps us retain the intense fruit component of the grapes. Malbec is traditionally dark and fruity and this one hits the mark. It was barrel-aged for eighteen months in Hungarian and American oak and is dedicated to Sylvia Clarin, our winemaker's amazing mother.
The Wine: The 2019 Malbec is a bold red wine, with inky color and bold flavors to match the dark purple-red hue. On the nose, you will notice blueberries, blackberries, leather, and black pepper. The balanced tannins, plum fruit, and dark berries complement the subtle leather notes and make this wine complex and delightful. This wine finishes with soft, velvety tannins and would pair perfectly with lamb chops, pulled pork in a sweet plum sauce, or manchego cheese.
