Join Sip & Script for Modern Calligraphy Fun!

Join us at McGrail Vineyards in Livermore, CA for pretty lettering! Whether you’re a stationery nerd, DIY Bride-to-be, or just a crafty individual, you’ll be introduced to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink in this workshop. We will cover all the basics and prepare you to add those unique lettered details to your snail mail, wedding paper goods, home decor, and more! The perfect crafty night out!

Tickets include 1.5 hours of instruction and demonstration, our beginner’s calligraphy kit (two nibs, black ink pot, 2 letter guides, tracing paper, and straight pen holder), and all materials to write on. Everything is yours to keep at the end of the workshop!

Feel free to arrive a little early, settle into your spot, and enjoy award-winning McGrail wines, available for purchase throughout the class. Wine will be offered by the glass and bottle so you can sip and savor at your own pace during the experience. You’re also welcome to bring your own snacks. Class will begin promptly at 5:30 PM!

Class Expectations: Yes, lefties are welcome too! This class is encouraged for someone who has never taken a calligraphy class before. We teach the basics, and our expectation for you is to have ink flowing through your nib with enough confidence to be able to practice way beyond class. We love using tracing paper with our guides to help you build muscle memory and develop your own style! If you have tried calligraphy out before, this class will be a great refresher and hopefully a chance to try some new supplies from our beginner kit that will re-introduce you to this lovely form of art!

The Main Event — Live Award Announcements
The evening culminates with the announcement of the Uncorked Best Red and Uncorked Best White — Livermore Valley’s highest wine honors. Eligible wines are those that received a Double Gold or higher at the California Signature Wine Awards from wines submitted from Livermore Valley wineries. The winners are revealed live, on the night.

Chardonnay Underground at Wente Family Vineyards

Step into history for a night that could only happen in Livermore Valley. Set inside our iconic caves—the very place where Chardonnay first took root in California in the 1880s—this immersive evening celebrates the wine that put our region on the map.

Fourteen Livermore Valley winegrowers will come together to pour their unique expressions of Chardonnay, each one telling a different story of this remarkable grape. From bright and crisp to rich and layered, you’ll explore the full “Chardonnay rainbow” and discover just how dynamic this varietal can be.

Between tastings, enjoy wood-fired pizzas, pacific tide tacos, and a curated selection of artisanal cheeses from Brandon of The Cheese Shop (available for purchase). As the sun sets, live music will fill the tirage barrel room and spill out onto the patios—bringing the entire evening to life.

This isn’t just a tasting—it’s a celebration of legacy. Chardonnay’s journey in California began right here in 1881, when Charles Wetmore brought cuttings from Meursault to Livermore Valley. The Wente family continued that legacy, developing what would become the renowned Wente Clone—now believed to be the genetic foundation for nearly 75% of all California Chardonnay.

We’ll be serving a communal, family-style feast featuring freshly harvested Maine lobster with all the classic fixings – prawns, sausage, corn on the cob, potatoes, crusty bread, and lots (and lots) of butter. Every bite is meant to be paired with our award-winning McGrail wines, crafted with care by our winemaking team.
