Vineyard Notes: 2019 started with a wet spring and relatively cool early season. Bud break was delayed approximately a week by the cooler spring weather, but then the weather warmed up and was perfect during flowering, leading to a great fruit set. The weather warmed up during mid-season, but was still cooler than years past and allowed for longer hang times. The extended hang time allowed the fruit to ripen slower, good acidity, and overall very balanced fruit with great concentration. Although the crop in 2019 was lighter than 2018, the quality was exceptional.
Winemaking Style: Our 2019 Patriot Cabernet Sauvignon is from our Estate Vineyard and handpicked in the early morning hours. We age this specific wine in 100% new American oak from Missouri. The Patriot was bottled May 25, 2022.
The Cause: The Patriot wine is a tribute to the officers who protect us both locally and globally. We want to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line for us day in and day out. Each year we donate a portion of the funds raised through Patriot Cab sales to a different branch of the Fallen Heroes Fund, benefitting the families of police, fire, and military who have lost their lives in the line of duty. In 2021 because of 2017 Patriot Cab sales, we were able to donate $5,000 to the Children of Fallen Heroes: Police and Fire Scholarships for School, assisting children of public safety officers who were killed in the line of duty in furthering their education. These honorable people keep us safe and protected and we are forever grateful.
