Vineyard Notes: The 2024 Charlie Rae Chardonnay is crafted from our sustainably farmed, 30-acre Lucky 8 Vineyard on Tesla Road, with 22 acres planted to vines. Harvested on September 12, 2024, two weeks earlier than the previous vintage, this season was marked by an exceptionally warm summer. Fortunately, steady Bay breezes and cool nights allowed our vines to recover each evening. This balance between warm days and cool nights helped spur ripening and ensured that our lighter-yield blocks developed beautifully. The limited crop load allowed the vines to focus on ripening, despite the challenges of such a hot summer. The result is a concentrated, fruit-forward Chardonnay that still retains the bright acidity and elegant structure that define the Livermore Valley’s signature style.

Winemaking Style: The 2024 Charlie Rae Chardonnay was barrel-fermented and sur-lie-aged for 10 months.  We used Vicard Low Tannin French Oak barrels and we are loving the results.  100% of this wine went through malolactic fermentation, giving it a creamy mouthfeel.  This wine was bottled on July 30, 2025. 

The Wine: The 2024 Charlie Rae Chardonnay opens with captivating aromas of golden delicious apples, Bosc pears, papaya, and brown sugar–grilled pineapple, complemented by hints of lemon, honeysuckle, and toasted brioche. Notes of butter, vanilla, caramel, and lemongrass add depth and warmth to the bouquet. On the palate, luscious flavors of sweet fruit, apples, pears, lemon, and tropical papaya are framed by refreshing acidity and a silky, layered texture. The finish is long and vibrant, driven by lingering notes of apples, pears, lemon, and tropical fruit that echo the wine’s aromatic intensity. Pairs beautifully with slow-roasted whole chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or fresh seafood with lemon and herbs.
